Despite the recent trend towards Flat Icon design, 3D icons are here to stay and a jolly good thing too. I am all for a bit of variety, but the thought of Flat Icon design being the only way to go did concern me for a while.
I am very happy to see the evolution of completely Flat Icon design to something a little more textured and 3D, what I tend to call ‘Almost Flat Icon Design‘ which can be a beautiful combination. However, it seems 3D is back and a lot of my clients are asking for it – which is great to see!
Back in the early 1990’s I used to dabble in 3D rendering and animation using 3D Studio (for Dos!) on my speedy 486 PC. It is a love affair that has continued for me over the years and I don’t think I will ever grow tired of a sumptuously detailed 3D icon.
In homage to my favourite icon genre, I have compiled a set of 35 x inspirational 3D icon designs from Dribbble and Behance. Enjoy!
